the story of outlandish is about three friends common adventure which starts in the youth clubs and soccer field of the western copenhagen suburbs.Issam Bachiri(morocco),Waqas Qadri(pakistan) and Lenny Martinez(hinduras) build outlandish in 1997 and begin a carrer together exploring new musical paths expressing social status,political views and religious conviction .
the first album they debut with was "outland official"'(2000) which was received with open arms by the public and the critics."walou","wherever" and "come on" became solid radio hits .they were named for six danish music awards and took the prize for best hip-hop album.their music is clearly american but with but with some abrab pop beats,bollywood soundtraks as well as latin rythms.the lycris were expessed in english, arabic,spanish ,urdu and danish."i was in my roomlistening to tupac,my mother was playing moroccan folk music on the stereo down in the living room,and somewhere along the line the idea popped into my head that i could unite the elements of my life in music" Issam Bachri.
then came their second album"bread and barrels of water"(2002) which were their true break-through.songs such "guantanamo" and "aicha" became powerful locomotives and gave outlandish more popularity around the world,but it also shows that outlandish is a band who refused to let the grass grow under their feet .
their 3rd and lateast album is "closer than veins" were juged by the critics and fans as the most powerful and mature."we were out there where things are happening .we met a big variety of different people who live their lives in different ways,under a broad range of conditions.i believe it has help us as human being,as a part of the whole,as opposed to the immigrants who are different from the world around them.it's reflected in the way we adress our lyrics and the way we make music" explain Waqas Qadri.
in this album you can easily sense the beauty and compelling appeal of the music bear witness to the creative self-confidance of the band members:Waqas(29year)Issam(28) and Lenny(30).
considering the time we r living in when political positions are becoming polarized and cultures are considering fenced-in entities that can't be united , one thing is sur:Outlandish has created its own deffinition of world music.and no matter how diffences there are in the world.the humble human being will be heartned,entertained and educated by listening to OUTLANDISH.
